Fee and Commission Disclosure
You should know exactly how your broker is paid before you work with them. Here it is in plain English.
Most clients pay us no fee
For the great majority of home loans, our service is free to you. We are paid a commission by the lender you choose to proceed with. You get our full service, including strategy, comparison, application, and settlement support, at no direct cost to you.
Lender commissions typically have two parts: an upfront commission paid when your loan settles, and a smaller ongoing trail commission paid over the life of the loan, both calculated as a percentage of your loan balance. These figures are indicative only, and the precise commission for your loan is disclosed to you in writing before you proceed.
For most home loans you pay us nothing. The lender pays us a commission, and the exact amount for your loan is put in writing before you commit to anything.
Why commission does not sway our advice
Under our Best Interests Duty, we are legally required to recommend a loan that is in your best interests. Differences in commission between lenders do not drive our recommendations. If a lender ever offered a higher commission for a product that was not right for you, we could not recommend it on that basis.
If a fee ever applies to you
Occasionally, for complex or specialised scenarios, a fee for service may apply. If that is ever the case, we will explain it clearly, disclose the amount in writing, and obtain your written consent before any work that incurs it. There are no surprise charges.
What a clawback means
If a loan is repaid or refinanced within a short period, often the first one to two years, lenders may claw back the upfront commission from us. This does not cost you anything, but it is why we will always talk through timing with you honestly, so that any decision to refinance early is made with the full picture.
